Metaphysical Communication Tools – Part 1: Open Your Throat Chakra

Communicating well is a life skill and it’s well worth investing time in developing it. The better we are at making ourselves understood and understanding others, the more connected we feel to those around us. We’re also more likely to get our needs met and to be able to meet the needs of others.

There’s a huge volume of information out there on how to communicate well, covering areas like choosing our words carefully, being aware of our tone and body language, listening actively and thinking before we speak. Important as those aspects are, we can also work with the subject from a more metaphysical perspective. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of the tools I’ve personally found very useful.

Open your Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is the energy centre that’s designed to help us express all sorts of things, including our thoughts, emotions, creativity and personal truth. (In case you don’t know, for a nice and simple explanation of what a chakra is, see here.) If we’ve never learned, or been allowed, to speak up, our throat chakra may be a bit blocked. There are many ways to open it, although it’s best to do this gently, rather than forcing it open.

Play with colour

Two very useful colours for this are blue (traditionally associated with the throat chakra, although there are various schools of thought on that) and violet, the colour of healing communication. Imagine these colours swirling around your throat, gently opening up that chakra. Alternatively you could wear blue or keep a blue semi-precious stone on you e.g. turquoise, aquamarine, chrysocolla or blue lace agate.

Heal yourself

Try putting your hands over your throat, either gently touching it or holding them just above it, and visualise healing energy flowing from your hands into your throat chakra, healing and balancing it.

Get creative

Practice expressing in other ways. It doesn’t matter whether you choose to do painting, creative writing, pottery, baking, woodwork, dancing, gardening, crafting or something else, so long as you enjoy it.

Sing

Another excellent way to open up your throat chakra is to sing. If you’re really worried about how you might sound, sing along to loud music in your car or quietly in the shower, where no-one can hear you!

Once your throat chakra starts to open up, experiment with speaking your truth in small ways whenever you can. It’s definitely something that becomes easier with practice.

To be continued – look out for another tool in the next post…
